Stained Glass Unicorn Vomit - First Look

Mind you, that is just the working title. I've been working on the ink part of this on and off for a few years now. This week, I decided to make a few more steps towards its completion and started in with the watercolor. Can you say mega-mandala. This might take a while.

  1. I'm not stitching that one :)

Seriously that is an epic piece. Very beautiful line work. The intersecting mandalas almost have a Brownian motion feel to them in the overhead shot.

Cant wait to see what you do with the coloring on the rest of this. Will you stay with the same palette, or mute as you leave the central area or change to complementary Colours as you change to the differing mandala styles within the piece.

  2. That is stunning. But I'm with gothtigger, no way I'm stitching it either!

  3. Don't worry. There's no way this is ever going to be realized as a cross stitch chart. Ink only.

I haven't worked out all of the colors yet. I was thinking as I moved outward to do use the same palette, but have less variation within individual mandalas - like one of mostly blues. Maybe like a color wheel around the outside. I don't want the whole thing to be uniformly varied, or I think the minor mandalas will lose their identities.

My only rule is "no red." Every time I use a true red, I end up fighting it and compensating for it across the whole piece.

  5. WOW - that's pretty intense! I look forward to the next update on this, especially if it includes that mandala on the lower left :)

You should put out a coloring book of these - I could go nuts with colored pencils :) Because you're never too old for coloring books, IMO.
